“We couldn’t be happier with the work Brian did for us! We had a larger electrical project that had been ongoing for a few months. Unfortunately, our original electrician was unable to…”

Home EV Charger Installation in Southern New Hampshire

Plugging an electric car into a regular wall outlet works, but it's slow. A Level 2 charger on a dedicated 240-volt circuit can fully recharge most EVs overnight. Barlin Electric installs home EV chargers across Southern New Hampshire. The work is done by a licensed master electrician and permitted properly, with a straight answer about whether your panel can handle it.

What an EV charger installation involves

  • A load check. Before anything else, we look at your panel and your home’s existing electrical load to confirm there’s capacity for a large continuous load like a car charger.
  • A dedicated circuit. The charger gets its own 240-volt circuit, run from the panel to the garage or driveway location you choose, with the wire and breaker sized for the charger.
  • Mounting and connection. We can hardwire a charger you’ve bought, or install a properly rated outlet for a plug-in unit, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Testing. We confirm the charger powers up and charges correctly before we leave.

When there’s a bigger job hiding behind the charger

In a lot of southern NH homes, especially older ones with 100-amp service, the honest answer is that the panel is already close to full. In that case the options may include a load-management device, a panel upgrade, or a service upgrade. Panel and service work, from 100A through 400A, is one of our core services, so we can handle the whole project without bringing in another contractor.

Signs it’s time to call

  • You just bought or ordered an EV or plug-in hybrid
  • You’re charging from a standard outlet and it can’t keep up
  • You want the charger outside or in a detached garage
  • You’re not sure your panel has room

Permits and inspection

Adding a 240-volt circuit for an EV charger in New Hampshire generally requires an electrical permit and an inspection from your town. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job.
